Why go through recruitment?
Recruitment is for everyone. Recruitment is not just for people who want to join a fraternity. Recruitment is primarily a period when the fraternities on campus hold events where men who might be interested in joining can meet the brothers and find out more about each fraternity. However, there is a lot in it for people who are not even thinking about joining a fraternity - it is a unique opportunity to make connections, get to know more people on campus, and get a lot of free food in the process!
Recruitment is a period when we can get to know you and you can get to know us. Recruitment takes the form of a series of events that each fraternity holds. These events are non-alcoholic and are designed to provide the rushees with an open atmosphere to choose the fraternity or fraternities that suit them best.
Each fraternity is very different, and it's important to choose the right one. The best advice is to meet the brothers of every fraternity on campus. One way to do this is to attend as many recruitment events as possible.
Why go Greek?
Becoming a part of a Greek organization means gaining access to great opportunities for leadership, philanthropy, and friendship. Some of its benefits include philanthropy and community service events, social activities, academic scholarships, and a group of men that become your family while away from home.
If I join Delta Sigma Phi, will I be hazed?
Delta Sigma Phi - Beta Mu strictly does not condone hazing in any form in accordance with the Transylvania University and Delta Sigma Phi National No-Hazing policies.
Transylvania No-Hazing Policy
Hazing is against the law and is not tolerated in the Transylvania Greek system. Activities are to be in accordance with chapter and University policy and consistent with the founding principles of the chapter. Please refer to the Student Handbook for the full University Policy on Hazing.
National Fraternity No-Hazing Policy
No chapter shall conduct hazing activities. Hazing activities are defined as any act or attempt to embarrass, humiliate, intimidate, ridicule, shame or endanger physically or mentally any person, or to compel physical activity or do physical or emotional harm to any person, or to require consumption or ingestion of liquids, food, or other materials.
Recruitment Events
Recruitment Registration Deadline - September 18th at 6:00 pm
This is you last chance to register for recruitment. Any potential new member who fails to register before this date will be unable to attend fraternity smokers and run out on bid day.
Orientation & Cook Out
This event will be held in Back Circle (or Campus Center Gym if it rains) and will be your introduction into fraternity life on Transy's campus.
Chapter Showcase
During Coke Parties, each fraternity will provide a short presentation giving you a chance to learn about each organization’s values, events, philanthropy projects, and leadership development programs. As well as a chance to meet members from each chapter and ask questions that you may have. Each round will last 30 minutes and then you will be escorted to the next chapter room. Dress is business casual.
Fraternity Off/On-Campus Event
During this round, you will have the chance to join Delta Sig for a cookout on campus with cornhole, frisbee, and other games. You will be able to talk with our members, ask questions, and learn more about our fraternity. The On-Campus Events also gives us a chance to learn more about you.
Spirit Night
Join us, as you will gain the opportunity to meet fraternity presidents, learn about each fraternity, and identify how Transylvania comprises the Inter-fraternity Council (IFC). A brief info session will take place in the Brown Science Center and then you will meet the fraternities out in Old Morrison circle. This is an opportunity for every chapter to show you their chapter, and inter-fraternal spirit. We would definitely recommend that you and other potential new members visit. IFC and Panhel will provide refreshments for everyone afterward.
Off-Campus Smokers
Smokers are the only INVITE-ONLY event of recruitment. If there is mutual interest you will receive an invitation to our Smoker in advance. Smoker is designed to give you as much information as possible about Delta Sig. You will eat some great food, meet chapter leaders and alumni, and learn exactly what it means to be a fraternity man. Dress is coat and tie.
Bid Day
Bid Day is the final event of Men's Recruitment. You will pick up your bids at 10:00 a.m, once you've accepted a bid you will run out to that fraternity.
